Rob Bernard asked:

Isn’t what you’re looking for a consistent, reliable golf swing that you can count on at that first tee when everyone’s watching? People spend millions of dollars each year purchasing equipment and gadgets that promise them the perfect swing, when really they should be concentrating on the simple science behind a great golf swing.

The fundamentals of the golf swing are based on scientific facts such as center of gravity, power, thrust, consistency triangle and more.

If you take the tour players and break their swings down to the fundamentals; (like what happens at address, back swing, impact, and follow through), about 95 percent of what they’re doing is the same. Their swings look different, because each player’s swing has its own personality. But, fundamentally, their swings are very similar. They have to be, or they wouldn’t be playing on the tour.

We’ve taken the golf-swing fundamentals and made them easy to understand, without the technical mumbo jumbo.

Being a consistent ball striker or increasing your consistency on the golf course really begins with an understanding of the geometry of the golf swing and how to control it. I believe the golf swing is simple geometry and physics. Understanding this geometry and how the physics of the swinging motion tries to alter it is the key to becoming a consistent ball striker.

I was always taught that the triangle running across your chest to shoulders and down your arms to the grip of the golf club was the triangle you had to maintain in order to create or maintain consistency in your ball striking. What I’ve discovered through the Center of Gravity golf method is this described triangle does NOT control consistency in ball striking and actually impedes the natural flow of the golf swing by trying to consciously control it. The real consistency triangle you must maintain throughout the swinging process runs from your Center of Gravity, (Use your shirt button as a reference point), to the knuckles of your big toes, (where the bunions grow) and back to the golf ball. This triangle formed at the address position must be maintained through the impact position in order to create a consistent bottom or impact point to your swing. When your target hand is allowed to be the boss of the golf club, the bottom of your swing will always be where your center of gravity is.

You’re looking for results, and we’re going to put you on the right track to getting them. Incorporating these ideas into your swing easy but it will take time and practice. But as long as you’re working on the fundamentals, you’ll be working toward developing a consistently great golf swing.

Showstoppa asked:

I know that it’s not power from my arms. I know it has to do with swing speed. Where is the speed supposed to be coming from? I am 5′8″ 147 lbs. My friend is 5′10″ 120 lbs. and drives the ball 280 yards or so. I can’t get it passed 170. Please help. Where is the distance supposed to come from at the point of impact with the ball?
And I will be taking lessons soon, I just wanted to try to get this down pat. Thanks.

In the fairway, clipping the grass on your practice swing tells you it is correct.

I find it hard to get the feel when there is hardground fairway, hardpan chip or a soft, muddy lie.

Any suggestions?

Simple Golf Swing Review

Gen Wright asked:

actually dive in to discuss about improving the simple golf swing, let’s take a quick look at how new golfers picked up their golfing habits. In the next few paragraphs, we shall see for ourselves why they need to improve on the simple golf swing.

First, most golfers are exposed to the sport because they see someone else in their lives play golf. It can be their parents, their friends, their colleagues, or anyone they know. When observing these people playing golf, they then subconsciously memorized the movements. And when it comes their turn to learn how to play, they remembered the golf swings that they have seen, and their body started to respond accordingly. They probably have no idea where they picked up these movements, because they claimed that they have never played the sport before.

But the fact that they never played the sport before didn’t really matter. What really matters is that now they have a problem on their hands. Somehow or other, they have picked up the habit of executing an ineffective golf swing, and this habit didn’t help them one tiny bit in their game. For others, they started playing with their family and friends without professional guidance, so they are even more likely to pick up the habits and golf swings of whoever they are playing with. It can get even more problematic for these group of people because chances are, they didn’t even think that there is a problem with their golf swings. They probably thought they are doing great and therefore seek no remedy. If the whole group thinks this way, then it’s very difficult for any member of the group to see any dramatic improvements in their golf game.

But like in all sports, it all finally comes down to basics. And the simple golf swing is the foundation in the game of golf. If it’s not mastered correctly, then the golfer is more likely to face problems executing more advanced golf playing strategies. If a golfer cannot control the golf ball with precision, then no strategy will be effective.

So how does a golfer know if he or she has mastered the simple golf swing? There is no sure way of knowing unless the golfer takes the trouble to review the simple golf swing. Go back to the basics. When the foundation strengthens, so will the game. It’s just inevitable. Seek help from professional golfers or coaches to perform the review. Don’t just get any golf buddy to do it because no one can be sure if the golf buddy has completely mastered the simple golf swing.

At the end of the day, you have two things you can rely on for choosing the right golf swing reviewer: your own observation and the final results. If the golf swing doesn’t produce the expected results, then it may be a good idea to start looking for someone else to perform the review.

If you want to review your golf swings without the hassle and cost of engaging professional golfers or coaches, you may wish to try reading some good golf swing books or videos. These resources are certainly much more easily accessible, more affordable, and can be found easily on the Internet.

zachary skinner asked:

Golf swings are like snowflakes — every one is different. I think good golf swings are either handed out by God on a first-come, first-served basis — and most of us just got in line too late — or are consciously built through personal discovery and coaching. Golf professionals these days will tell you that golf swings are as unique as fingerprints and that to try to speak generally in terms of golf instruction is a thing of the past. While a golfers tempo is an individual thing, all great golf swings are smooth from start to finish.

The delivery position of the swing is when the club shaft is parallel to the ground. The swing plane is the plane formed by the shaft where it intersects the target line. The mysterious ’slot’in the downswing is nothing more than a spot where the shaft angle is parallel to the plane.

Golfers of all stripes have to adapt their swings to their physical attributes and strengths. The patented Callaway Performance Analysis System, used to custom fit Tour Professionals like Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els and Annika Sorenstam, employs two high-speed cameras and ball-flight simulators, while a computer monitor displays an analysis of each golfers launch conditions–ball speed, launch angle and spin rates. In addition, the system measures the path angle and the golfers angle of attack to the ball, utilizing 3D imagery and precision software designed by Callaway Golfs world renowned Research & Development department. Never before have everyday golfers been able to employ such high-tech equipment to improve their performance and enjoyment on the golf course.

Club

The power in your golf swing will come from the leverage in the angle between the club and your wrists. Try to hold the angle between the clubs and the wrists as much as possible in order to generate maximum power. Instead of thinking about my arms and swinging my golf club , I try to think of my back swing as turning my back to the target. One of the most common swing flaws occurs when golfers take the club too far inside the target line on the back swing. To keep your swing under control, opt for more club.

The five stages of a golf swing are set-up, takeaway, backswing, impact, and follow-through. If you look at the golf swings of great players, both past and present, you’ll see that players move the club quite differently in the backswing. The fact of the matter is you don’t strike the ball on the backswing; you strike it on the downswing. A faster backswing will run out in general to an enforced attack on the ball resulting in erratic flight and topped balls. The speed of the backswing should set the approach for striking the ball.

The Golf Swing Lesson

Filed Under golf swing | Comments Off

Chris Simpson asked:

For anyone who wants to play golf, swing lessons are usually a must; it’s like you can’t do without, since the correct movement is the very basis of this game. Before you start a golf swing lesson as such you need to ask and answer a fundamental question. What do you intend to do in the golf swing or what is the achievement you’re after? There should be square impact in the line of flight and along the one you intended in the first place. The golf swing lessons will teach you how to control the body moves so that the ball follows a well planned trajectory.

The best definition of the swing is found in professional books that provide golf swing lessons. It is explained as the movement that makes the head of the club swing along and into the intended line of flight throughout impact. You will thus learn how to propel the ball in a straight way between two points. The golf swing lesson tackles with the starting point, the targeted area and the movement that is meant to unite the two. Make sure the club-face remains square to that line. Follow your trainer’s example during the golf swing lesson, imitation engenders good learning.

The most important part of a golf swing lesson is to actually understand and apply the theoretical knowledge. If you keep the club-head square to the line of impact and drive the ball forward for as long a time as possible you actually meet the main principles and goals of a practical golf swing lesson. If the shot is accurate, the ball will be able to maintain its correct direction in the wind, which will definitely lead to low scores. If you manage to correctly use these golf swing lesson tips you can move on to finding out new stuff.

The most frequent mistake players make during golf swing lessons is to start the downswing by moving the shoulders first while keeping their feet motionless. The correct move - as the trainer will insist during the golf swing lesson – starts from the feet upwards. This means that the shoulders will be the last to move. If you manage to control this aspect, you may acquire great results, so do your best to get everything out of any golf swing lesson, since this is the ABC of golf playing as such!

thetunak asked:

I know a huge part of the problem is that my spine angle changes as I enter the impact zone; My head and body starts to come up to avoid hitting the shot fat. But if I try and maintain that spine angle and not come up, the club instead will hit 6 inches behind the ball, catching all grass and the ball doesn’t go anywhere.

Any suggestions would be helpful: drills, points to look at in the swing, etc.

Thanks!

Robert
