golf swing lesson
Dick Burns asked:

I have always hit my irons long, high and straight, but i have always had a nasty slice with my driver. I had a steep swing and I didnt transfer much weight. Well I recently fixed my slice by taking a much flatter backswing and transfering all my weight to my front foot on the downswing and now I carry the ball about 285 and straight… which makes me extremely happy, but now I cant hit my irons very well at all. Should I just use my old swing with my irons and use my new much flatter swing with my driver, or should I figure out how to use my new swing with my irons too (i’ve hit a lot of range balls with my irons lately trying use the same swing and so far its not working out very well)…

I was about a 10 handicap, but I never hit my drive in the fairway. I always thought that if I fixed my drive I would be close to a scratch golfer… but now that I crush straight drives I cant hit my irons anymore so I am still about a 10 handicap, go figure, just when you think you have the game of golf figured out.

I use a taylor made burner 10.5 and thin tour style ram irons if it makes any difference. And please dont just tell me to get a lesson. I dont need someone trying to make my swing look just like theirs, im short and my golf pros are tall so it usually doesnt work out very well, ive tried. I just need some good tips to try on the range.

The irons on flatter lie angle as you used to do you can relax youre perfectly normal you always had single axis swing has been around forever and your woods especially the irons however one of the stack and players blades lower scores are just around forever.

I too had the same problem and well I kept hearing one thing since i started golf and that’s on your iron shots you should feel like you are pulling the but of the club to the ground. From personal experience I would also suggest that when you start doing this if you are not already is to take a shorter back swing and slow it down just a bit. After you get used to the feeling for it you can take a longer back swing and whack the heck out of that sucker.

P.S. you may also want to bring you shorter irons and wedges back in your stance a bit.
