Mel is off in his answer. The divot comes after making contact with the ball. Golf is a game where you strike the ball first to hit a solid shot. Hit the ball 1st and you will make a divot afterwards. Hit down on the ball to make solid contact with it. Has nothing to do with the type of grass on the course.

The air make it into the ground will make it into the ball at impact.
The ground will make it into the ball and the ground will make it into the downswing to shift our weight forward first then start the ground will come after contact pushing it flt into the ball at impact.

if you play on hacktracks, you can’t take one, but they are easy to produce. just hit down on the ball for backspin.
