What’s a great starter set of golf clubs for men that don’t cost an arm and a leg?

My husband would love a set of golf clubs and golf lessons as a combo birthday gift. But since I don’t know anything about golf or how to shop for decent clubs, I’m loathing the trip to a local sports store. I need to know decent brands for a good starter set of clubs, the price range I should expect and the gear he’d need to get started. Please help!

      The RAM, Acuity, and Walter Hagen are three great starter sets that don’t cost too much. Ram is available at wal-mart/target, acuity and walter hagen are available at dicks sporting goods.
